JASHEY SHATASSEEL: SO, SHALL WE PHONE TILLMAN?

OPENING: MARCH 15 2012, 7 pm – 9 pm
By Ashley Ohman  |  Jesse Stilwell  |  Tasha Alphonse
Jashey Shatasseel: So, Shall we Phone Tillman?showcases a collaborative installation that both acts antagonistically and harmoniously with the Root Cellar’s unique architectural space. The installation itself utilizes abstraction, colour, and formalism through video and other materials which make up a site specific installation that contrasts the rough nature of the gallery. Even though on paper Ashley Ohman, Jesse Stilwell, and Tasha Alphonse seem visually and stylistically different, the three artists merge their similarities to act as one artist (Jashey Shatasseel) to create an immersive environment that reflects the sensibilities of the very best of contemporary installation.

Out of Wound… By Heather Heikkinen, February 9-11, 2012

Out of Wound is a series of 4’x4’ paintings revealing the inner turmoil that is residual from past experiences. Making autobiographical work dealing with domestic violence doesn’t mean it needs to be literal or carry extreme abjection. Sometimes violence is subtle and silent, at least to the outside world. It is a very internal wound even if the physical wounds and scares are still present.

Gallery Hours: Fri, February 10, 12-4pm & Sat, February 11, 12-4pm
